BCAD sets the value; the tax office collects the bill
Two separate offices handle your property taxes in Bexar County—the appraisal district sets your value and exemptions, while the Tax Assessor-Collector's office sends the bill and collects payment.
Many homeowners are confused about who does what with property taxes. In Bexar County, the Bexar Central Appraisal District (BCAD) determines your property's appraised value and processes exemptions. BCAD is located at 411 N. Frio St. in San Antonio. Questions about your value, homestead exemption, or a protest go to BCAD at 210-242-2432 or bcad.org.
The Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector's office is a completely different agency. This office calculates and sends tax bills, collects payments, and handles overdue accounts. It is located at 233 N. Pecos La Trinidad (Vista Verde Plaza). There are also branch offices in the northeast (Nacogdoches Rd), northwest (Bandera Rd), south (Pleasanton Rd), and east (Precinct 4, 8794 E. Loop 1604 N., Converse) parts of the county. Call 210-335-2251 or visit bexar.org for payment options and office hours.
If you want to fight your value, go to BCAD. If you need to pay, get a receipt, or ask about a payment plan, go to the Tax Assessor-Collector. Knowing the difference saves time.
