Collin County Gets Tornadoes and Major Hail Every Year

Collin County is in an active tornado and hail zone. Spring storms regularly bring large hail and tornado threats.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth tracks tornado history for Collin County going back to 1880. Tornado activity typically peaks in spring. The area is also prone to large hail. In April 2016, a single supercell storm produced a hailstone over 5 inches wide near Wylie. Damage from that storm topped $300 million and hit roughly 80% of homes in that city.
