Public Hunting Access
The Annual Public Hunting Permit opens land across Texas
Texas residents can buy an Annual Public Hunting Permit from TPWD to access over a million acres of public hunting land statewide.
The Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit — about $48 per year — lets you hunt, fish, camp, and hike on more than 180 TPWD-managed areas around Texas. While Gregg County itself has limited state-managed public land, the permit gives access to nearby Wildlife Management Areas in the East Texas Piney Woods region.
A cheaper Limited Public Use permit (about $12) covers non-hunting recreation like fishing, hiking, and wildlife watching on TPWD lands. Both permits are in addition to any required hunting or fishing license. Check the TPWD public hunting lands map booklet each season — land availability and rules can change. Buy permits at tpwd.texas.gov.
