Windstorm Insurance
Victoria County is not in the TWIA windstorm insurance territory
TWIA is the state's backup windstorm insurer. It covers only 14 coastal counties, and Victoria County is not one of them.
TWIA stands for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. It is the state's last-resort insurer for windstorm damage. It covers 14 first-tier coastal counties: Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, and Willacy, plus part of Harris County. Victoria County is not on that list.
Victoria County is not eligible for TWIA. That means you must shop for wind coverage on your own. Look in the private insurance market. A standard home policy may or may not cover wind. Read yours carefully.
After Hurricane Harvey, some insurers raised rates here. Others added higher wind deductibles. Ask your agent directly: does my policy cover wind and hail? Do not assume it does.
