Vehicle Inspections and Registration in Randall County

As of January 1, 2025, Texas eliminated safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles in most counties. In Randall County — a non-emissions county — no inspection is required before you register your vehicle.

As of January 1, 2025, Texas eliminated safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles. Randall County is not one of the 17 Texas counties that still require emissions inspections (those are mostly in the Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and El Paso areas). That means non-commercial vehicle owners in Randall County simply renew registration — no inspection trip required. You can renew online, by mail, or in person at the county tax office.

In Randall County, pay registration at the Randall County Tax Office at 501 16th St., Suite 200, Canyon (phone: 806-468-5540). You can also renew online at txdmv.gov. New residents must get a Texas vehicle registration within 30 days of moving here. If you came from another state, you also need a Texas driver's license within 90 days.
