Vehicles registered in Nueces County use the Two Steps, One Sticker program

As of January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles in Texas no longer require a safety inspection before registration. In Nueces County, which is not one of the 17 emissions-testing counties, you simply register and receive one windshield sticker.

Texas uses the Two Steps, One Sticker system. As of January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles are no longer required to get a safety inspection before registering — the state eliminated the annual safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles. You register online or at the county tax office and receive one windshield registration sticker. Nueces County is not one of the 17 emissions-testing counties, so no inspection of any kind is required there.

In Nueces County, you register through the Nueces County Tax Assessor-Collector's office. You can also renew online through TxDMV without going to an office. Have your proof of insurance ready — it is required when you register. Check TxDMV for current fees and deadlines before you go.
