Brazoria County Vehicles Require an Annual Emissions Inspection
Brazoria County is part of the Houston-Galveston-Brazoria emissions testing area, so most gasoline-powered vehicles must pass an emissions inspection before you can renew your registration.
Texas dropped the annual safety inspection for most personal vehicles in 2025. But emissions testing is still needed in 17 counties. Brazoria is one of them. It sits in the Houston-Galveston-Brazoria nonattainment area. You cannot renew your vehicle registration without passing an emissions test first.
Most gasoline-powered vehicles 2 to 24 model years old must be tested. Vehicles older than 24 years are exempt. So are electric vehicles, diesel vehicles, and motorcycles. The test happens at a certified station. You must get it done within 90 days before your registration renewal date.
Texas uses the Two Steps, One Sticker system. You get the emissions inspection first. Then you renew your registration — online, by mail, or at the county Tax Office. Both steps result in one renewal sticker. Find inspection stations and learn more at tceq.texas.gov or twostepsonesticker.com.
