Burleson County vehicles skip the emissions test — safety inspection also ended in 2025

Vehicles registered in Burleson County do not need an emissions test. As of January 2025, the annual safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles also ended statewide.

Texas used to require two steps each year: a vehicle safety inspection and a registration renewal. As of January 1, 2025, the safety inspection step was removed for non-commercial vehicles across the whole state. You now renew your registration directly through the county tax office or online.

Emissions testing is still required in 17 Texas counties in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin metro areas. Burleson County is not one of them. Residents there do not need an emissions test.

Register your vehicle through the Burleson County Tax Assessor-Collector at 100 W. Buck St., Suite 202, in Caldwell. Phone: 979-567-2326. Many renewals can be done online or by mail. Check the TxDMV website for online renewal options and for what documents you need if you are transferring a title.
