Ag / Wildlife Valuation
Landowners can keep ag tax rates by managing wildlife
If your land already has an agricultural tax valuation, you may be able to switch to wildlife management use and keep the lower tax rate.
Texas law lets qualifying landowners value their property based on wildlife management instead of farming or ranching. This keeps property taxes low. The land must already have an agricultural appraisal to make the switch.
You file a Wildlife Management Plan (form PWD-885) with the Kendall County Appraisal District — not with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Each year you also submit a report (form PWD-888) to show ongoing wildlife activities. TPWD wildlife biologists can help you build a plan that qualifies. Contact them at hunt@tpwd.texas.gov.
