Wildlife Management Can Qualify Land for Agricultural Valuation in Tarrant County
Tarrant County landowners can switch land from agricultural use to a wildlife management plan and still receive the lower productivity-based property tax valuation.
Texas law allows land that previously qualified for ag appraisal to convert to wildlife management use without losing the tax benefit. You must have an active wildlife management plan that meets TPWD guidelines — activities can include habitat control, erosion control, predator control, or census counts.
This option is popular for landowners who no longer raise crops or livestock but want to keep a lower tax bill. The plan must be submitted to TAD. Guidelines are at the Texas Comptroller's site at comptroller.texas.gov.
