Clean Your Boat Before Leaving Eagle Mountain Lake
Zebra mussels have invaded Eagle Mountain Lake in Tarrant County — state law requires boaters to clean, drain, and dry all equipment before leaving.
Zebra mussels are a harmful invasive species. They attach to boats, trailers, and gear and can travel to other lakes on wet equipment. Once they get into a lake, they are almost impossible to remove. Texas law prohibits transporting them. If your boat, trailer, or other gear is wet when you leave, you can be cited by a game warden.
Before you leave, scrub all surfaces with a brush, drain bilges and livewells completely, and let everything dry. TPWD game wardens patrol boat ramps and enforce this rule. The clean-drain-dry rule applies to all Texas waters where zebra mussels are found, not just Eagle Mountain Lake.
