Zebra Mussels Are in Lake Lavon — Clean Your Boat Before Leaving

Zebra mussels have invaded Lake Lavon, and Texas law requires boaters to drain all water and clean gear before moving to any other water body.

Zebra mussels are a destructive invasive species that spread from lake to lake on boats, trailers, livewells, and bait buckets. Once established, they are nearly impossible to remove. Lake Lavon is an infested water body under Texas law.

The legal requirement is simple: Clean, Drain, and Dry your boat and all equipment before leaving. Draining standing water from livewells, bilges, and bait containers is required by law. Possessing or transporting live zebra mussels is illegal. Violations can result in fines. If you fish or boat on Lavon, do not move directly to another lake without fully drying your gear.
