Agricultural Appraisal
Ag Valuation Can Cut Your Land Tax Bill in Camp County
Rural landowners in Camp County may qualify to have their land taxed on its agricultural productivity value instead of its full market value — which can mean a much lower tax bill.
Texas law lets farm and ranch land be taxed on what it can produce — not on what it could sell for. This is called a 1-d-1 open-space agricultural appraisal. In Camp County, livestock and poultry are the top sources of farm income. Many rural properties here also support livestock or timber.
To qualify, your land must have been used mainly for agriculture for at least five of the past seven years. Qualifying uses include raising cattle, poultry, or other livestock, growing crops, or managing timber. File your application on Texas Comptroller Form 50-129 with the Camp Central Appraisal District. If you stop using the land for agriculture, you may owe back taxes. These are called a rollback tax. Check current rules and deadlines with Camp CAD before you apply.
