Homestead Exemption

How to Lower Your Property Tax with a Homestead Exemption

If your home in Camp County is your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable property value.

A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. That means a smaller tax bill. To qualify, the home must be your main residence as of January 1 of the tax year. You must apply — it is not automatic.

File your application with the Camp Central Appraisal District at 143 Quitman St., Pittsburg. You will need a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing your home address. Texas school districts must give at least a $140,000 exemption on a homestead. Other local taxing units — like the City of Pittsburg or Northeast Texas Community College District — may offer additional optional exemptions. The general filing deadline is May 1, but check with Camp CAD to confirm the current deadline.
