Property Tax
Who Handles Property Tax in Camp County
Camp County has a separate appraisal district and tax office — and the tax office does not collect property taxes here.
In Camp County, two offices handle property taxes. The Camp Central Appraisal District sets the value of your property. The Tax Assessor-Collector handles vehicle registration and other duties. But the appraisal district — not the tax office — collects the actual property tax bills. This split is unusual and trips up new residents.
The appraisal district is at 143 Quitman St., Pittsburg. Their phone is (903) 856-6538. If you own a home, you need to file your homestead exemption application with the appraisal district, not the tax office. A homestead exemption lowers the taxable value of your home. Texas law sets a general filing deadline of May 1, but check with Camp CAD for the current year's deadline. Tax rates can change each year — always check the official sources for current numbers.
