Amistad NRA: Camping and Paddling on the Rio Grande

Amistad National Recreation Area wraps around the reservoir near Del Rio and offers low-cost camping, boating, and paddling managed by the National Park Service.

The park address is 10477 Highway 90 West, Del Rio. The NPS manages five campgrounds — Governors Landing, Rough Canyon, San Pedro, Spur 406, and 277 North — all first-come, first-served. Fees range from $6 to $10 per site. Facilities are mostly primitive; only Governors Landing has running water. The park boundary extends 74 miles up the Rio Grande, 25 miles up the Devils River, and 14 miles up the Pecos River.

No hookups are available for RVs. Group campsites can be reserved through Recreation.gov. The maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights. For paddling, the NPS provides maps of unmarked trails on the lake. Check the NPS site for current fees and any closures before planning a trip.
