The Anahuac Loop Is a Key Texas Birding Stop

The Anahuac Loop is a marked segment of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail that runs through Chambers County marshes, bayous, and Trinity Bay shoreline.

TPWD's Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail includes an Anahuac Loop that passes through Chambers County. The route follows public roads through coastal prairies and wetlands. It connects several public access points including areas around Lake Anahuac and Trinity Bay.

The trail area covers fresh and brackish marshes, open bay waters, and woodland edges — habitat types that attract a wide variety of migrating and resident birds. Shorebirds, wading birds, raptors, and passerines all use the area during migration.

No fee is required to drive the loop on public roads. Some stops are on public land with open access; others may have limited hours. Check the TPWD wildlife trails page for a current map and site list before visiting.
