Two Offices Handle Property Tax in Chambers County

Chambers County has two separate offices for property taxes: the Appraisal District sets your property's value, and the Tax Assessor-Collector sends the bill and collects payment.

These are two different offices that do different jobs. The Chambers County Appraisal District (CAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. The Tax Assessor-Collector uses that value, applies tax rates set by local governments, and sends your tax bill.

If you think your property is valued too high, you protest with the CAD — not the tax office. The CAD is at 1222 S. Ross Sterling Ave., Anahuac. The Tax Assessor-Collector is at 405 S. Main St., Anahuac. Property taxes are due by January 31 of the following year to avoid penalty and interest.

The county has about 20 active taxing units. That includes school districts, the city, and special districts. Each unit sets its own rate. Your total bill is the sum of all those rates applied to your appraised value after exemptions.
