The Appraisal District Also Collects Your Taxes

In Foard County, the appraisal district handles both valuing your property and collecting your tax bill — which is unusual and worth knowing.

Most Texas counties split two jobs between two offices. One office — the appraisal district — decides what your property is worth. A separate tax office sends your bill and takes your payment. Foard County works differently. The county tax assessor-collector does not collect property taxes here. Instead, the Foard County Appraisal District handles collection.

This matters if you have questions about your bill, want to pay, or need to file a homestead exemption. All of those go through the appraisal district at 200 N. Main St. in Crowell. A homestead exemption can lower the taxable value of your main home. You file it once with the appraisal district. Check with the district to confirm whether your exemption requires any follow-up each year. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact details before you visit or mail anything.
