Tornadoes Are a Real Risk in Foard County

Foard County has a documented tornado history going back over a century, including deadly storms and a recent strong tornado in 2022.

National Weather Service records show at least 24 tornadoes in Foard County since 1900. An F4 tornado in April 1979 killed 11 people and injured at least 67. Those deaths and injuries spread across Foard, Wilbarger, and into Oklahoma. In May 2022, an EF3 tornado cut a 23-mile path through Foard and Wilbarger counties.
