Foard County Is Served by the Gateway Groundwater Conservation District

Foard County is served by the Gateway Groundwater Conservation District, headquartered in Quanah, and the county falls within Groundwater Management Area 6.

Foard County is part of the Gateway Groundwater Conservation District (GGCD). The GGCD is a local water district. It also covers Hardeman, Childress, Cottle, King, and Motley counties. The district office is at 223 S. Main St. in Quanah, TX. The GGCD controls how much water landowners can pump from wells. It also requires permits for new wells.

Foard County is part of Groundwater Management Area 6 (GMA 6). GMA 6 is a state-level planning zone for groundwater. The two main aquifers under this area are the Ogallala and the Seymour. The Blaine is a minor aquifer in the region.
