Vehicle registration
No Emissions Test Required in Chambers County
Vehicles registered in Chambers County only need a safety inspection to renew registration — the county is not in the Texas emissions testing program.
Texas runs a combined inspection and registration program called Two Steps, One Sticker. Step one is passing a vehicle inspection. Step two is renewing your registration. You end up with one sticker on your windshield.
Chambers County is not in the emissions testing zone. Neighboring Harris County and Galveston County both require emissions tests, but Chambers County does not. Your vehicle only needs to pass the standard safety inspection.
You must pass inspection within 90 days before your registration expires. The Chambers County Tax Assessor-Collector handles registration renewals at 405 S. Main St., Anahuac. You can also renew online through TxDMV. If you move to Chambers from a county that required emissions tests, that requirement goes away.
