Property Tax Basics
Two offices handle your property taxes in Midland County
The appraisal district sets your property value; the tax office sends the bill and collects money — they are separate offices with different jobs.
In Midland County, two offices handle property taxes. The Midland Central Appraisal District (MCAD) figures out what your property is worth. Their website is midcad.org. The Tax Assessor-Collector then uses that value to calculate and collect your tax bill.
If you think your value is too high, you protest with the appraisal district — not the tax office. Tax statements arrive around October 1 each year. If you do not pay, penalty and interest start February 1. Check each office's website for current deadlines before acting.
