Senior Tax Exemption

Homeowners 65 and older get extra tax relief in Midland County

Residents 65 or older can claim a larger homestead exemption that may also freeze their school district tax bill at its current level.

Midland County currently offers an over-65 exemption of $150,000 off the county portion of your taxable value. School districts and other taxing entities each set their own over-65 amounts on top of that. When you turn 65, you can also freeze your school district taxes so that amount does not go up, even if the value rises.

You cannot claim both the over-65 exemption and the disability exemption from the same taxing unit. The over-65 is usually the better choice. Apply at midcad.org and bring proof of age. Amounts are set by taxing entities and can change, so verify current figures with MCAD before filing.
