Homestead Exemption
Homestead exemption can lower your property tax bill in Midland
If your home is your main residence, you can apply once for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable value and caps annual value increases at 10 percent.
To qualify, you must own the home and live in it as your principal residence. File Form 50-114 with the Midland Central Appraisal District. Attach a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID that shows the property address. Once approved, you do not need to reapply each year.
After the exemption takes effect, your appraised value cannot rise more than 10 percent per year. Midland County also offers extra exemptions for residents over age 65 and for people with disabilities — check midcad.org/exemptions for the current amounts and filing instructions, since the dollar values are set by each taxing entity.
