Baylor University Has Called Waco Home Since 1887
Baylor University relocated to Waco in 1887 and remains a major presence in McLennan County's economy and culture.
Baylor University moved to Waco in 1887. It came from Independence, Texas. It joined with Waco University to make the move. Baylor helped the city grow after the Civil War. Today it is one of the biggest employers in the county. Students come here from all over Texas and beyond.
McLennan County also has McLennan Community College. It offers two-year degrees and job training. The county's main economic drivers are agribusiness, education, and manufacturing. The Texas Almanac is a good place to learn more about the county's economy and population.
