Appraisal Protest
You Can Protest Your Property Appraisal
Property owners in McLennan County can formally challenge their appraised value each year if they believe it is too high.
When MCAD sends your appraisal notice, there is a deadline to file a protest — usually May 15 or 30 days after the notice, whichever is later. You file the protest with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB), which is a separate panel that hears disputes. You can appear in person or by telephone.
Bring evidence: recent sale prices of similar nearby homes, photos of damage or problems, or an independent appraisal. Many owners who protest get a reduction. Check mclennancad.org for the current deadline and protest instructions.
