Bexar County's Spanish Archives are among the oldest government records in the US

The Bexar County Clerk's Spanish Archives hold thousands of documents from the early 1700s. They are among the most important colonial-era government records in Texas.

The Bexar County Clerk's Office keeps the Spanish Archives. These are original papers from Spanish colonial times and the early Texas Republic. They include land grants, mission papers, and government records. Some go back to the early 1700s. They are among the most important colonial-era government records in Texas.

These records help people trace family history. They are most useful for Tejano, Canary Islander, and early Anglo settler families. Many papers have been scanned or put on microfilm. That protects the originals. The Bexar County Genealogical Society has research tools tied to these archives. So do the libraries at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
