Hunting in Cameron County: Seasons and Bag Limits

Cameron County has deer, turkey, dove, duck, and quail hunting seasons — each with its own license and bag limit rules.

White-tailed deer season in Cameron County runs from archery in late September through a general season ending in January, with a bag limit of five deer, no more than three bucks. Wild turkey bag limit is four gobblers or bearded hens. The plain chachalaca — a South Texas specialty bird — has a season from late October through late February with a daily limit of five.

Migratory bird hunting (doves, ducks, geese) requires a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement plus federal HIP Certification, and duck hunters also need a Federal Duck Stamp. Turkey harvest must be reported via app or online. All seasons and limits are set by TPWD and change annually — always check the current Outdoor Annual at tpwd.texas.gov before hunting.
