LCRA Overview

What the LCRA Does for Travis County Residents

The Lower Colorado River Authority manages water, power, and flood control across the Colorado River basin, including Lake Travis.

LCRA stands for Lower Colorado River Authority. It is a public agency — a state-created conservation and reclamation district that funds itself, not a state department. LCRA manages the lower Colorado River from San Saba County down to the Gulf Coast. In Travis County, LCRA runs Mansfield Dam, operates the Hydromet water monitoring network, and handles flood control on the Highland Lakes.

LCRA also provides power to some areas outside Austin city limits. It sells water to utilities across the region. If your home is near Lake Travis, or your water comes from an LCRA-supplied utility, check lcra.org. That site shows current lake levels, water quality data, and flood alerts.
