Veteran Exemptions
Property Tax Exemptions for Veterans in Travis County
Veterans with a VA disability rating may qualify for partial or full property tax relief.
Texas gives a partial property tax break to veterans with a disability rating of 10% or more from the VA. The break ranges from $5,000 to $12,000 off the appraised value. Veterans with a 100% disability rating from the VA can get a full exemption. That means no property taxes on their home.
Unmarried surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify for these benefits. You will need current VA disability paperwork to apply. Submit your application through TCAD. You can apply online at traviscad.org or bring your documents to 850 East Anderson Lane in Austin. There is no fee to apply. Check traviscad.org for the current form and any updated rules.
