Deer Hunting in Llano County
Llano County has a large white-tailed deer population and is widely recognized for deer hunting — but nearly all land is private, so access requires a lease or landowner permission.
Llano County harvests a very high number of white-tailed deer each year. The Texas State Historical Association's Handbook of Texas notes the county has been called the Deer Capital of Texas. Most hunting happens on private ranches, many of which offer paid hunting leases. Public hunting opportunities exist at Inks Lake State Park through TPWD's drawn hunt program.
If you plan to hunt in Texas, you need a valid Texas hunting license and any required stamps for the species you are after. Seasons and bag limits change each year — always check the current TPWD hunting regulations before you go. For drawn hunts at Inks Lake, applications open each summer through TPWD's public hunt drawing system.
