Deer hunting rules in Newton County
Newton County is in the North Zone for deer hunting and has specific antler restrictions that hunters need to know before they go out.
The county allows up to four deer total per season — no more than two bucks and no more than two antlerless deer. There is a special rule on bucks: you can take two legal bucks, but only one may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. A legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler or an inside spread of 13 inches or more.
Antlerless deer hunting has additional limits. In November you can use a regular license tag, but antlerless deer cannot be taken on National Forest Service property during that period. From December 1 through January 4, antlerless deer require a MLDP (Managed Lands Deer Program) tag on participating properties. Seasons and rules change from year to year. Always check the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual for the current year's regulations before you go.
