Property Tax
Who handles property taxes in Newton County
Two separate offices handle property taxes here — the appraisal district sets your property value, and the tax assessor-collector sends the bill.
The Newton Central Appraisal District (CAD) appraises every property in the county. It also handles exemptions. The appraisal district does not collect taxes — it only sets values. You deal with them if you want a homestead exemption or if you think your value is wrong.
The Newton County Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office. That office sends tax bills and collects payments. Both offices sit on Court Street in Newton. The Texas Comptroller lists both offices and their current contact information on its county directory page. Check there for current phone numbers and deadlines, since those can change.
