Appraisal Protest

Disagreeing with Your Travis County Appraisal

You can protest your property's appraised value before a formal deadline each year.

If you think TCAD valued your property too high, you can file a protest. Start with an informal meeting — use TCAD's 'Get in Line Online' system to schedule time with an appraiser. Bring evidence like recent sales of similar homes. Many protests are settled at this stage without a hearing.

If the informal meeting does not resolve it, you can go to a formal Appraisal Review Board (ARB) hearing. You will get at least 15 days' notice. Bring five copies of your evidence. Protests must be filed by the statutory deadline — check traviscad.org each year because the date can vary.
