Check FEMA's Flood Map Before You Buy
FEMA maps show which Dallas County properties sit in a flood hazard zone, which affects insurance costs and mortgage requirements.
Dallas County has active Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) with an effective date of March 21, 2019. Homes in high-risk flood zones may be required by lenders to carry flood insurance. Even homes outside a mapped flood zone can flood.
Dallas County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In unincorporated areas, any development in a floodplain requires a Dallas County Floodplain Development Permit. You can look up any address at the FEMA Flood Map Service Center at msc.fema.gov.
