Texas Fishing and Hunting Licenses Apply Countywide

Anyone fishing or hunting in Wichita County needs a valid Texas license, with one exception: no license is needed to fish from shore or the pier inside Lake Arrowhead State Park.

Texas Parks and Wildlife issues fishing and hunting licenses. A standard resident fishing license covers most freshwater fishing statewide. Hunting licenses and any required endorsements (for deer, turkey, dove, etc.) are separate. You can buy licenses online at tpwd.texas.gov, by phone, or at many retail stores.

The one local exception is inside Lake Arrowhead State Park, where you do not need a license to fish from shore or the lighted pier. For all other fishing in Wichita County—from a boat on Lake Arrowhead, on the rivers, or at other public waters—a valid license is required. Check tpwd.texas.gov for current season dates, bag limits, and any changes, since these can update each year.
