BexarFlood.org monitors 150 crossings in real time

Bexar County and the San Antonio River Authority operate a free real-time flood monitoring system at BexarFlood.org that shows which road crossings are safe, rising, or closed during storms.

Bexar County's HALT (High Water Alert Lifesaving Technology) system places sensors at 150 low water crossings throughout the county. Each sensor monitors water levels and triggers color-coded road signals: green means the road is safe, yellow means water is rising, and red means the road is closed. The system sends real-time data to BexarFlood.org.

Residents can sign up for free text or email notifications at bexarflood.org so they receive an alert when a specific crossing near their home, commute route, or school floods. The system covers crossings in Bexar, Wilson, Karnes, and Goliad counties. Bexar County approved $21 million in 2026 to upgrade the NextGen predictive system, which pairs sensors with advanced rainfall and stream modeling.

During any storm with heavy rain, check BexarFlood.org or the SA.gov/Floods dashboard before driving. Never drive around a closed-road barricade at a flood crossing. More than half of all flood fatalities in the US involve vehicles.
