Flood Risk
Parts of Wichita County Are in FEMA Flood Zones
The Wichita River and its tributaries create flood risk in parts of the county, and FEMA flood maps identify which properties may require flood insurance.
The Wichita River runs through the middle of the county, and the Red and Little Wichita rivers add flood exposure in other areas. The City of Wichita Falls maintains FEMA flood map sections on its website for general reference, but notes those maps are dated and may not reflect newer changes.
Before buying or building in Wichita County, look up your address on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center at msc.fema.gov. Properties in high-risk flood zones (Zone A or AE) typically require flood insurance if the mortgage is federally backed. For the most current status, contact the City of Wichita Falls Engineering Division at (940) 761-7477.
