Garner State Park sits along 2.9 miles of the Frio River and draws families for swimming, camping, and tubing.

The park covers 1,774 acres near Concan, about 31 miles north of the city of Uvalde. The Frio River flows through it. You can swim, tube, fish from shore without a fishing license, rent paddle boats or kayaks, and hike 16 miles of trails. Evening jukebox dancing at the concession building has been a tradition since the 1940s.

Entry costs $8 per person (ages 13 and up) as of the last update; children 12 and under are free. The park is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It fills up fast from Memorial Day through Labor Day — reservations are strongly recommended. Book online or call (512) 389-8900.
