The George Observatory at Brazos Bend State Park opens Saturday nights for stargazing

A public observatory inside Brazos Bend State Park lets visitors look through professional telescopes on Saturday nights year-round.

The George Observatory is inside Brazos Bend State Park near Needville. It opens Saturday nights all year, as long as weather allows. You can look through the telescopes, including a large dome scope, at planets, star clusters, and other objects.

You need a separate ticket for the observatory. That is on top of the park entry fee of $7 for visitors 13 and older. Tickets must be purchased online in advance at george.hmns.org — they are not sold at the park. Check that site for current hours and ticket prices.

The park is far enough from central Houston that there is less light in the sky. That makes for better stargazing than most spots in the area.
