Regional Identity

Orange Is Part of the Industrial Golden Triangle

Orange, Beaumont, and Port Arthur form a regional cluster known as the Golden Triangle, one of the most concentrated industrial areas in the United States.

Orange sits at the eastern tip of the Golden Triangle. That is a three-city industrial region in Southeast Texas. The other two cities are Beaumont and Port Arthur. The region grew through the 20th century as oil, shipbuilding, and chemical industries expanded.

Orange's spot on the Sabine River made it a natural port and industrial base. During World War II, shipyards and chemical plants grew fast here. Knowing this history helps make sense of local jobs, road layouts, and air quality in Orange County. The Texas State Historical Association's Handbook of Texas covers this in full detail.
