Grayson County's Farm Economy Centers on Cattle, Wheat, and Nurseries

Grayson County is still a farming county. Beef cattle, wheat, and nursery products are among its top farm outputs.

Farming has been part of Grayson County since the first settlers arrived in the 1830s. Today, beef cattle, wheat, and nursery operations are the county's main farm products. The land is flat to gently rolling, and the soil supports these uses well.

If you own farm or ranch land, you may qualify for a special tax break. It is called a productivity appraisal. Instead of taxing land at what it would sell for, the county taxes it based on what the land can produce. This can cut your property tax bill by a lot. You apply at the Grayson Central Appraisal District.

Texas also has right-to-farm laws. These limit lawsuits against established farm operations for things like noise or odors that are normal for farming.
