Homestead Exemption
Apply for a Homestead Exemption to Lower Your Tax Bill
If your home is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces the taxable value of your property.
A homestead exemption lowers the value your county uses to calculate your taxes. It can save you money each year. To qualify, the home must be your main residence and you must have an ownership interest in it.
You apply at the Grayson Central Appraisal District in Sherman. There is a deadline to file each year, and it can change, so check the appraisal district's website for the current date. You only need to apply once unless your situation changes. Additional exemptions may be available if you are over 65 or have a disability.
