A Local District Regulates Water Wells in Live Oak County
The Live Oak Underground Water Conservation District oversees well drilling in the county and may require permits before you dig.
Live Oak County has its own groundwater conservation district. It is called the Live Oak Underground Water Conservation District (LOUWCD). The enabling legislation passed in 1989 and voters confirmed the district in 1991. The office is at 3460A Hwy 281 in George West, phone 361-449-1151.
If you plan to drill a water well on rural property, contact the district before you start. They may require a permit. The Texas Water Development Board also keeps a database of historical well reports you can search by location. Rural properties in Live Oak County often rely on private wells, so understanding local water rules matters before you buy.
