Two Offices Handle Property Tax in Live Oak County
The appraisal district sets your home's value; a separate tax assessor-collector handles billing — but in Live Oak County, the appraisal district may actually collect the taxes.
Two offices deal with your property tax bill. The Live Oak County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It covers eight taxing units, including the county, George West ISD, Three Rivers ISD, and the City of George West. The appraisal district is at 205 Bowie St., George West.
There is also a county tax assessor-collector. But the Texas Comptroller's directory notes that office does not collect property taxes — the appraisal district may handle that role instead. If you own a home and live in it, you may qualify for a homestead exemption. File the application with the appraisal district, not the tax office. Check the Comptroller's county directory page to confirm current contacts and any local exemption amounts before you file.
