Water Wells
A groundwater district oversees water wells in Goliad County
If you plan to drill a water well on rural property here, the Goliad County Groundwater Conservation District has rules you need to follow.
Goliad County sits over the Gulf Coast Aquifer. That is the underground water source most rural properties here depend on. The Goliad County Groundwater Conservation District exists to protect that supply and prevent waste.
Before you drill a new well, contact the district. They maintain a list of approved well drillers and may require permits or registration. This matters most if you are buying rural land that does not have city water. The district office is at 118 S. Market St. in Goliad, phone 361-645-1716, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
