Presidio La Bahia is a nationally recognized Spanish fort in Goliad

A Spanish colonial fort built in 1749 still stands in Goliad and holds status as a National Historic Landmark.

Presidio La Bahia was established in 1749 as a Spanish military outpost on the San Antonio River. The Texas Historical Commission recognizes it as a National Historic Landmark. During the Texas Revolution in March 1836, Texian prisoners were executed there — an event known as the Goliad Massacre. The phrase 'Remember Goliad' became a battle cry at San Jacinto.

Visitors can tour the restored fort, including the chapel, barracks, and other structures. The site operates daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is modest — free for young children, a few dollars for adults. Rates and hours can change, so confirm before visiting. The Texas Historical Commission manages the site.
