Homestead Exemption
Homestead exemption can lower your tax bill in Goliad County
If your home is your main residence, you likely qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces what you owe in property taxes.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 reduction on the appraised value of their primary home. Other local taxing units may add more. This can meaningfully lower your annual tax bill.
To apply, file Form 50-114 with the Goliad Central Appraisal District. You will need a copy of your Texas driver's license showing the property address. Applications are typically due by a spring deadline each year — check with the appraisal district for the current date, since deadlines can shift. The district is at 161 N. Welch St., Goliad, TX 77963, phone 361-645-2507.
