Drilling a Water Well in Panola County

Panola County has its own Groundwater Conservation District that oversees wells tapping the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer, the county's main underground water source.

Want to drill a water well in Panola County? You need to know about the Panola County Groundwater Conservation District (PCGCD). The 80th Texas Legislature set it up in 2007. Its job is to protect the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. That aquifer sits under most of the county. It is the main source of well water here.

Water quality is generally good. Testing did find higher fluoride levels in a small number of samples. Before you drill, call PCGCD at 903-690-0143 or stop by 419 W. Sabine St. in Carthage. Ask what permits you need. Rules can differ for a home well versus a large commercial well. The PCGCD website is where to check for the latest rules.
